Nexo Review

Quick take

Nexo is a custodial crypto platform combining interest accounts, fixed-term savings, borrowing, exchange services, and a payment card. Its yield product covers more assets than many single-purpose earn apps and credits rewards daily. However, new users must maintain at least $5,000 in their portfolio to earn, and the highest advertised rates depend on loyalty tier, holding NEXO tokens, choosing NEXO-token payouts, and sometimes locking assets in a fixed term. This makes the headline rate a poor proxy for what a basic account will actually receive. Readers can compare its offer with other stablecoin yields.

How earning works

Users deposit or buy an eligible asset and opt into earning where required. Flexible Savings credits interest daily while keeping the asset available to withdraw, trade, or move into another Nexo product. Fixed-term Savings commits an asset for a period ranging from one month to as long as twelve months in exchange for a higher rate. Interest paid in kind compounds automatically because each daily payout is added to the earning balance.

Nexo also offers Dual Investment, but this is not equivalent to a savings account. Its outcome depends on an asset-price condition and can settle into a different asset, so it should be evaluated separately from Flexible or Fixed-term Savings.

Rates, fees, and requirements

An account must maintain at least $5,000 in total portfolio value to begin accruing interest. Rates vary by asset, region, product, balance, loyalty tier, payout choice, and term. Reaching the Platinum tier requires at least 10% of the portfolio to be held in NEXO tokens. Choosing rewards in NEXO and committing funds to a fixed term can raise the rate further.

Some assets have balance tiers that reduce the rate above a threshold. Withdrawal allowances and charges also depend on loyalty level and network conditions. Users should compare the rate shown for their actual account configuration rather than the platform's maximum rate.

Custody and key risks

Nexo is custodial, so users transfer control of deposited assets to the platform and rely on Nexo and its custody, lending, and operational arrangements. These accounts are not bank savings accounts and are not covered by deposit insurance. Users face counterparty and withdrawal risk in addition to crypto-price and stablecoin risk.

Holding NEXO to improve the loyalty tier adds exposure to the platform's native token. Choosing interest in NEXO also means the value of rewards can move independently of the deposited asset. Fixed-term balances cannot provide the same liquidity as Flexible Savings.

Related features

Nexo also offers crypto-backed credit, an exchange, futures, a card, recurring purchases, and services for larger private or corporate clients. These features make the account versatile, but borrowing and structured products introduce risks that are separate from ordinary interest earning.

Best for

Nexo is best for users with more than $5,000 in crypto who want daily interest and multiple financial products in one custodial account and are comfortable with platform counterparty risk and a rate system tied to loyalty and native-token incentives.
