About this comparison

How crypto yield lockups work

A lockup is the period during which deposited or staked assets cannot be freely withdrawn. Some products are flexible, while others use fixed terms, unbonding periods, withdrawal queues, or early-redemption penalties.

Flexible does not always mean instant

A product described as flexible may still have settlement windows, liquidity limits, account reviews, blockchain delays, or platform-specific withdrawal rules. Review both the advertised lockup and the actual redemption process.

  • Minimum holding period
  • Unbonding or settlement time
  • Early-withdrawal fees
  • Rate changes after choosing a term

Why fixed terms may pay more

Platforms may offer higher rates for committed balances because fixed terms make liquidity easier to plan. The trade-off is reduced access during volatile markets or personal cash needs.

Frequently asked questions

What is an unbonding period?
It is a protocol or platform waiting period between requesting an unstake and receiving transferable assets.
Can a flexible account restrict withdrawals?
Yes. Flexible products can still be subject to settlement delays, liquidity limits, maintenance, or risk controls.
Should I choose the longest term for the highest rate?
Only if the added yield compensates for reduced liquidity and you can tolerate rate, platform, and asset-price risk throughout the term.
